Starting their careers with commercial jingles, ballets and advertisements, the duo went on to compose for plays, private albums, and movies. Vishwavinayak, a spiritual non-filmy music album with Ganesha Symphonic Chants. The album topped international charts and proved to be a big break for the duo, paving their way into the Indian music industry.
The duo has also composed for Bollywood movies including Super 30, Zero, Tumbbad, Thugs of Hindostan, Dhadak, Brothers, PK, Bol Bacchan, Agneepath, Singham, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi, and Gayab to name a few. Their soundtrack ‘Tharki Chokro’ from the movie PK stood out for its bawdy mix of lyrics and unconventional fusion of Rajasthani folk rhythms. The duo is composing for upcoming movies including Ajay Devgn's Taanaji, Amitabh Bachchan's Jhund, Ashutosh Gowarikar's Panipat .
In Marathi cinema, Mauli, Jaundya Na Balasaheb, Lai Bhari, Fandry, Natrang, Jatra, Saavarkhed - Ek Gaon, Aga Bai Areccha, Jabardast, ,Uladhaal and musical blockbuster as Natrang Jogwa & Sairat are some of the Marathi movies which gained massive attention from the masses for their exceptional music tracks.
Some of their most popular compositions from Marathi include Zingaat, Wajle Ki Bara, Apsara Aali, Kombdi Palali, Malhar Wari, Morya, Lallati Bhandar, Mauli, Bring It On, and Dolby Song, to name a few.
Ajay & Atul have been bestowed with the National Award for Best Music Direction for 'Jogwa' at the 56th National Awards. They are the only music directors to have been conferred upon the honour for a Marathi movie. The duo has won 29 accolades for music direction with Ajay winning more than nine awards for Best Male Playback Singer.
The duo’s popularity has been internationally recognised when they made their debut on the 2015 Forbes India Celebrity 100 List, securing a position at 82. They are also the first Indian music directors to record at Sony Scoring Studios in Hollywood for Marathi movie Sairat. ‘Zingaat’ from the same movie turned out to be a huge hit and was the first Marathi song to be recognised worldwide.
Apart from composing and playback singing, the distinctive duo has also performed live internationally. Their unique style of fusing folk forms with western instruments and pulsating rhythms make them a rare combination on stage, leaving the spectators speechless.
